Mental Ward Tactical Assessment Guide- Morgue- Attack1
| Whether the Defenders are determined, aggressive or lame, attacking the Morgue is a nerve wracking project. You are entering into a building that holds hostile forces. They have the advantage of a clear field of fire in front of the entryways. They have the advantage of being able to move a short distance down 4 different stairways that will bring the entering attacker into immediate and close contact. As soon as he enters, the Attacker is walking into a potential ambush. Even if the defenders do not attack into the 1st floor, an attacker has only the prospect of pushing up defensible stairways into what will eventually be a heavily defended area. Because of this uncertainty about where the defenders may be once an attacking group has entered, it's vital for the attacking force to have a basic plan of action for their attack inside the building. Before any plan can be enacted, of course, the attackers must gain entry. Below is a map of the surrounding area outside of the Morgue. As you can see the front windows on the second floor have a commanding line of sight and fire on any frontal approach. Likewise they command the approaches to the side doors equally as strongly. I like to send a fire team to the backdoor, it is usually best if it's someone who has been back there before and has an idea of how to get in. This pair is on their own, they will be lucky to get in, and once in must work without hope of help from the other outside groups. If there are no such players among the group, it's better to only make a show in the back so as to hopefully draw off a defender or two in that direction. If the numbers warrant, attacks on the side doors can be made, but they must be made quickly and with no regard for safe arrival. Attacking the side doors slowly will incur possibly total loss of the attacking force, such is the lack of cover on the sides and the strength of those defensive positions if actively defended. The right side is a very hard attack, though, as approach is usually made along the roadway which offers no protection from sniping from the front and backside windows. Travel on the right side should be made in the brambles beyond the road. No-one ever does this, but it's the only way to get into a good flank position on the right. Direct frontal attack is a favorite method. If the front windows can be suppressed it's possible to rush in some players through the front with minimal loss. Any diversionary attacks should be immediately exploited. A push to the right along the road will always draw fire, this fire will mean fewer, if any, defenders guarding the frontal zone. When the defenders are obviously fighting out the front, flank movement is essential, but be absolutely certain to move to GOOD cover. Otherwise if the paint is good, you will be a sitting duck. The thin trees on the right side of the bridge offer little cover and inhibit movement. The larger trees on the left offer more cover, but there are only a couple of good trees, so bringing up enough players to assault the front is difficult against a determined defense. At that point, diversionary attacks are essential. Once such a diversion has begun, though, the frontal attack must immediately jump off to take advantage of the defender's preoccupation. |
