Mental Ward Supplies and Schtuff
The Mental Ward is strictly a Bring Your Own Everything field. This includes Paint, Air, Food, Fluids, and Paper Products. Paint is available from many sources, 888Paintball is in Jersey, so they're a relatively quick send. PaintballDiscounters.com has good prices, but the only batches I've seen and shot were kinda not so good. However that was only once and I wouldn't judge a paint supplier on one case. On the other hand, I'm not ordering from them again, cuz why risk it!? I get my paint from National Paintball Supply in NJ. They own the companies that make Proball, Team Colors, and Zap, so those are the main brands I have easy access to. Cases run around 60 bux per for the Team Colors and Zap, and 83 for the Proball. It seems they've been trying to change the Proball formula from ProBounce to Probreak in the barrel, and last year Proballs blew. Prior to that, they were the best paint, imfho, you could shoot. Team Colors fluctuates depending on the freshness of the batch, but fresh it shoots quite well. Usually I can get a good new batch. The new Zap Performance is also quite good, especially when fresh. We had some older cases a few months ago, before they had changed to the winter mix, and they sucked, but the newer cases are great. Marbs are still a fave of many and are available both on-line or from Island Paintball in Long Island. They go for around 75 bux a case (2000). Air comes in two varieties, CO2 and Scuba/HPA. Many of us are running HPA now, so Scuba is usually brought along. 80 and 100 CF tanks are available for one day rentals from Village Divers at 224 e.10th St in NYC (212-780-0879, Ask for Cal and say it's for PB) You put down a $160 deposit and get charged 10 bux per day as a rental) Also from StingRay Dive Shop at Grand and Humboldt in Williamsburg, (718-384-1280 Ask for Paul or Joe) I don't know their exact rental details but it's probably similiar. Scuba Fill stations are necessary for use of Scuba bulk tanks, and a few regulars have them, but it's best to make sure beforehand. CO2 bottles can be filled at Flag Station on Meeker in Williamsburg, (718 349-0302, definitely call prior to going) or bulk tanks can be bought/leased from TW Smith, which is THE co2 dealer in the NYC area. They have outlets in Manhattan (545 w.59th St. Bet 10-11th, 212 247-6323) Queens, and Staten Island. Call for more info on how to get a bulk co2 tank. The exact specs are a 20 lb. Siphon Co2 tank. This is more a long term purchase or lease item, rather than a day rental. You need a co2 Fill Station to use a 20lb bulk tank. The fill up of a 20lb costs $21. A bulk tank usually costs around $100. But a fill will last a decent number of bottle fills. I have a bulk tank, but often I don't bother refilling it, so if CO2 is desired it can be had, but it will require special effort and a little cash outlay. Food, Fluids, and Paper Products all must be brought in by players. The old hotdog stand no longer exists, as if it ever did, but the Deli on Bradley Ave is open, and the Pizza joint across from the Deli has decent enough za. They don't deliver, but it's only 5 minutes away. The sandwich man is slow at the Deli, so we tend to avoid him in the morning! As for the facilities, you must Do as the Bears Do. Just try to do it somewhere we don't play. If you desire any sort of Kit, Guns, Paint etc, I have a Dealer account with National Paintball Supply, so I can get some things at a decent discount. Shop around though, cuz it sometimes falls out that the price I can get isn't GREAT (though never worse than any other discounter) unless I can get some volume sales going. Items are either cash up front or on delivery depending on how much the item is and if we can hook up. Delivery is typically next day, second day max. Except no delivery on Sat. |
